What is LL?
LL is short for two words: Leicht Lesen (easy to read).
Whenever you see the sign LL somewhere,
it means:
This text is written in a way
that is easy to read and understand.
People with learning difficulties have checked the text.
In Austria there are already many
LL texts and brochures about the law and other important things.

What are users?
Users are people
who use something specific.
For example people
who live in a residential home
are users of this residential offer.
What is an evaluation?
An evaluation is a check.
In an evaluation you check
if someone has achieved their goal.
You could also say
that an evaluation measures
how much of your task you have managed to do.
In an evaluation it is important
to know what the goal is.
For example:
A residential home has the goal
that staff knock
befor entering the user's room.
When we want to evaluate
if the residential home has achieved it's goal,
we have to check,
if the staff really knock.
For example we can check
by asking the residents:
"Do the staff knock
before entering your room?"
What is an evaluation model?
An evaluation model is a special type
how to make a check.
Nueva is a special evaluation model.
For example, in the Nueva evaluation model,
evaluators should also be users themselves.
This means:
People who evaluate a residential offer
have to live in a similar residential offer
or have lived in one.
Additionally it is obligatory for the evaluators
to have done a training.
When they are doing an evaluation
they have to stick exactly to the rules
that are written in the model.
What is Nueva?
Nueva is short for: “Nutzerinnen und Nutzer evaluieren”,
which is German for “users evaluate”.
They do an evaluation.
Nueva is the name of an evaluation model.
What is a user evaluation?
In a user evaluation the users of a service
must attend the evaluation.
Usually an evaluation would tell you
what the users get from a service.
The users are very often interviewed directly
in a user evaluation.
The special thing about Nueva is
that the users not only get interviewed.
The interviewers are users themselves.
They are the peers of the interviewees,
the users who are being asked.
What is a peer?
The word ‘peer’ means equal.
Peers are people who have something in common.
They could have the same job,
the same feature,
or come from the same group.
For example:
When a group of people with learning difficulties come together,
then they are peers.
They are coequal
since they all have learning difficulties.
What is special about peers?
Peers can often understand each other more easily,
because they have made similar experiences.
For example, if they live in a residential home
they know what it is like.
They don't have to imagine
what it could be like
to live in a residential home.
What is UNIQ?
UNIQ is short for:
Users Network to Improve Quality.
UNIQ is pronounced: yooneek.
UNIQ is the name of a European Nueva project.
What is a network?
A network is a community
of different people or organisations
who work together and give each other support.
What is a UNIQ peer?
The word ‘UNIQ peer’ is pronounced: yooneek peer.
A UNIQ peer is a person with learning difficulties,
who is taking part in the UNIQ project.
UNIQ peers obtain residential assistance
or work in a sheltered workshop themselves.
A UNIQ peer advocates an improvement in the quality
of residential services and workshops.
A UNIQ peer is not alone,
he or she works with other UNIQ peers
from other countries together in a network.
What is a quality circle?
A quality circle is a group of different people
who are experts in a specific domain.
Together they want to improve
the quality of a certain thing.
It is important that different people
work together in a quality circle,
so that all of their different viewpoints can be discussed.
For example in a Nueva quality circle would sit:
- users
- staff
- representatives of the local authorities in charge
So can all the viewpoints about the quality of Nueva
be discussed in a Nueva quality circle.
